Let’s dive in. Have you ever felt stuck? Like, no matter how much you try to move forward, something just feels off, it’s heavy, it’s blocked.
0:00:48 Tansy Rodgers: Like you want to focus, but your brain is just not. Not cooperating. Or you want to make progress, but every attempt feels like you’re running in quicksand. Or maybe you feel emotionally weighed down, even when there’s nothing that is obviously wrong. That, my friend, is an energy block. And today I’m going to break down what’s actually happening in your body, your nervous system, and your thoughts when you start to feel this way.
0:01:21 Tansy Rodgers: See, here’s the thing. So many of us think that when these problems arise is actually something that is just physical or just mental or just emotional. Or maybe we are trying to figure out all of the possibilities of maybe where someone made us upset or maybe that we’re being triggered. Like, we’re always trying to figure out out that underlying root cause, when in reality, sometimes, most of the time, typically it’s an energy block, and that can come in in many different forms. Now, if you have adhd, anxiety, or are just highly sensitive to energy, these blocks can hit you even harder.
0:02:11 Tansy Rodgers: And today I’m going to share exactly how to clear them so that you can get your energy flowing again. This is a topic that I talk about all the time with my clients. And I feel like. I feel like, number one, there just isn’t as much exposure to this, but also number two, that we may hear the surface level information, but then have no clue of what to do about it and how to actually resolve the situation. And that’s what I wanted to dedicate this podcast episode, this solo podcast episode to. Today, I want to talk about things like how energy blocks happen in the body, the mind, the nervous system, the science, and the energetics behind why we feel stuck, what’s actually happening behind the scenes.
0:03:01 Tansy Rodgers: I want to give you some simple yet powerful ways to clear and reset your energy fast. And I also want to share some of my favorite healing tools, such as crystals and energy work, and some upcoming events that maybe you might be interested in that can help to clear some stuck energy. So if you are ready to dive in, if you’re ready to get really below the surface, maybe even feel a little vulnerable.
0:03:31 Tansy Rodgers: Let’s go and grab your favorite cup of coffee, tea, green smoothie, whatever gets you excited and let’s dive in. So to really just start this podcast out, I want to talk about what exactly is an energy block? What is that term? I feel like sometimes these words get thrown around and they feel very. I hate this word, but woo, woo, I really don’t like that word, but it’s appropriate in this situation.
0:04:09 Tansy Rodgers: It feels like it’s just woo woo. It feels like it’s this concept that is out there and just something that floats willy nilly, like in the spiritual realms. But in reality, this is rooted in research, is rooted in realness, and it actually has a basis to show you what is going on, when sometimes you can’t explain what is going on. So let’s talk about what an energy block is. I want you to think of your energy like a river.
0:04:45 Tansy Rodgers: When it’s flowing freely, everything feels super aligned. You have clarity, you have focus, you have motivation, your body moves with ease, your emotions are balanced, you feel like yourself. But when there’s a block in the river, a dam, a pile of debris, a fallen tree, rocks, whatever it is, the water gets stagnant and it starts backing up, swirling in one place or completely stopping. This is the same thing that happens in your body.
0:05:18 Tansy Rodgers: And these are the energy blocks. They are like invisible little traffic jams inside of you. And they can show up physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually. They can show up in a variety of ways, and they often start subtly before actually manifesting as exhaustion or brain fog or tension that won’t go away. So many of our health concerns are anxiety, depression, back pain, hip pain, digestive problems, racing heart, high blood pressure, all of these symptoms, these signs and symptoms.
0:05:56 Tansy Rodgers: So often they are energy blocks, and that is the root cause of what is manifesting them. And they may have been around for a long period of time, but you had no clue. And just over time, it starts to embed deeper and deeper and deeper and the block gets more compressed, for lack of better words, and then it starts to manifest into something that you can actually see. So let’s break it down into four places where energy often gets stuck.
0:06:36 Tansy Rodgers: I want to start with one of the biggest issues, and this one, I think is really important to start at because it is a primary place in the grand scheme of foundational health. And that’s an energy block in your nervous system. It’s why you might feel on edge all the time, why you might feel like you’re on the brink of burnout. Why? Overwhelm may come in really easily. Easily. It’s a large part of why you have mood imbalances.
0:07:15 Tansy Rodgers: Or maybe you feel like you just get stressed at the drop of a hat. Your nervous system is the control center of your energy flow, and when it’s balanced, you can feel super calm, present and adaptable. But when it’s overloaded or stuck in fight or flight mode, your energy starts to spiral. And this is really important to note if you have ADHD or if you have a neurodivergence, because this nervous system, this stress, is a large part of why maybe your signs and symptoms with ADHD or a neurodivergent brain starts to really increase and rapidly become a huge factor in how you’re operating from day to day.
0:08:07 Tansy Rodgers: So what are some signs that your nervous system is blocked? So it could look like you feel restless but exhausted at the same time, maybe wired but tired. You can’t quite fall asleep. Maybe you struggle to sleep at night because your brain won’t shut off. Even when you know that you need to rest, your brain is running a mile a minute. You struggle to focus because your mind is constantly scanning for what’s next.
0:08:37 Tansy Rodgers: And your body holds this tension, especially in your neck, your shoulders and your jaw. This is a large reason of why meditation is so helpful. It’s helpful for the nervous system to calm and relax, but especially kind of going back to that whole concept of ADHD and neurodivergent brains. This is why meditation is such a critical piece for helping you to heal and move forward on your journey, because it allows your nervous system to just decompress, to turn the brain off for a moment, to reset. It’s almost like going into your computer and hitting restart.
0:09:18 Tansy Rodgers: It resets everything. So think about one of those times that maybe you’ve had a day where you sit down to work, but your brain just keeps jumping from one thing to the next. You check your emails, your scroll, Instagram, you’re suddenly remember that you need to book an appointment. You are hearing everything else around you going off. Maybe if you work from home, you hear the laundry is finished, you hear the vehicle outside that has the backup beeper on, right?
0:09:51 Tansy Rodgers: Or if you are working in a company or an office setting, you hear every conversation going on around you. Your brain is just wired to tapping in to all of that noise. Before you know it, two hours have passed. You’ve accomplished nothing. Because your brain has been so connected in and distracted by everything going on around you. This is called nervous system dysregulation. Your energy scattered, you’re unfocused, you’re in survival mode.
0:10:28 Tansy Rodgers: And so this is really important to keep in mind that when you have these energy blocks directly affecting your nervous system, that it is affecting your entire level of how you’re functioning and how your brain is connecting in. Now, you might be wondering how you can clear this, and there’s many ways that you can clear this. I’m going to talk about a few modalities. So first, meditation, like I’ve already said, it’s like hitting the reset on your computer.
0:11:05 Tansy Rodgers: It shuts everything down for a moment and just allows you to refocus. Regulating your nervous system through some energy healing like crystal Reiki, breath work, vagus nerve exercises, somatic healing, yoga, all of those are ways to bring yourself into that regulation, that balance you can use crystals. Lepidolite is one of my favorites, lepidolite because it has some really amazing properties that are powerful in nervous system calming with especially because of its natural lithium. That’s one of my favorite parts of this. It has natural lithium to help reduce overstimulation.
0:11:50 Tansy Rodgers: Another great tool is using some sensory resets. Things like putting cold water on your wrists, shaking out your hands. I mean, if you’re sitting at your desk at work or if you’re in the middle of a stressful situation, simply standing there and shaking out your hands, or rubbing your thumb up and down and across your palm, or tugging and pulling at your fingers, those are a really great way to help also stimulate some of the nerve ends that can help to decrease the stress and to balance out the nervous system.
0:12:31 Tansy Rodgers: Sound healing is a great sensory reset as well. This is part of why I love doing the sound and crystal Reiki sessions with my friend Jill O’Leary, because of how it just allows you to calm and to reset your body to reset your system. When I was on my burnout journey, when I hit full burnout and I went into freeze mode, one of the things that I found super helpful to get my nervous system back into a regulation, to calm it down so that it didn’t feel so dysregulated, was to do something as simple as just body movement stretches.
0:13:13 Tansy Rodgers: Moving myself in some yoga positions, doing some cat camel, child’s pose, allowing my spine to move, allowing my hips and my pelvis to move, and just allowing that energy to flow through me that was getting stuck and holding me into that place of exhaustion, burnout. And I remember when I did that, when I started to move my body. I could feel the emotion starting to whelm up with in me. I could feel it needing to be released.
0:13:49 Tansy Rodgers: I could feel the tears starting to come up. And that’s not. I’m not telling you that to scare you. I’m just allowing you to paint a picture of how this emotion can get trapped. This energy can get trapped within you. And if it doesn’t have a way to be released, it can show up in physical signs and symptoms. For me, it was literally freezing my. My body, feeling like I couldn’t move. Hitting full burnout and needing to rest, repair, and then find ways to get that energy, that emotion to be released.
0:14:31 Tansy Rodgers: Now let’s talk about number two energy blocks. While we’re talking about the physical body, let’s talk about energy blocks in your physical body. Why you feel tired and stiff all the time, why your body hurts. There are some big key signs that you have energy stuck in your physical body. You wake up feeling heavy. Even after a full night’s sleep. Your muscles feel tight, achy, especially in your hips, your lower back and your shoulders.
0:15:05 Tansy Rodgers: If we think about what emotions connect into those prime areas, it’s no surprise that maybe you feel tightness and achiness, especially in those areas. And your hips I’m connecting into. Louise Hayes, you Can Heal youl Life, which is a phenomenal book, by the way. That book really helps to explain what emotions are connected with what parts of the body. So if we’re talking about your hips, we’re talking about that fear of moving forward, not knowing how to move forward, feeling like we’re stuck in stagnant energy, feeling like we have these hopes and these dreams, but yet we’re scared to move forward because maybe it doesn’t feel safe, maybe it doesn’t feel stable. Maybe our foundation of security is feeling a little rocky.
0:16:00 Tansy Rodgers: If we’re thinking about the low back, it’s about all of the weight, the energy of the world just weighing down us. This is also with the shoulders, the weight and the energy weighing down on us. Weighing down on you. Where are you carrying too much? Where are you overloading? Where are you feeling like if you push any harder, your back is going to break? Where are you feeling hunched over in life and not feeling very confident?
0:16:33 Tansy Rodgers: Where are you feeling insecure, like you want to curl up into a ball because you are so stressed? You have so much on you, right? So thinking about that is no surprise that one of the main signs of stuck energy in the body comes through muscle tightness, achiness. And if you have chronic Tightness and achiness. It’d be interesting to look up what emotion, what energy is directly connected with that part of your body.
0:17:06 Tansy Rodgers: You may also experience digestive issues like bloating and sluggish metabolism, weird cravings. That’s super common. So thinking about the body and how it is talking to you is so important to understand where maybe the energy blocks are embedding. So think about this. Ever notice how when you’re stress, your stomach starts to tighten up, your shoulders start to creep up towards your ears. That’s energy getting trapped in your body instead of flowing through.
0:17:38 Tansy Rodgers: I remember when I worked in physical therapy full time, I had a co worker who consistently would come up behind me, place his hands on my shoulders, and I could feel the tension just releasing out of my shoulders. And he would say to me, you’re so tight and tense. My shoulders were literally like embedded into my earlobes. And I didn’t even notice it until he would put his hands onto my shoulders. And I could feel the. I could feel the muscles just starting to release.
0:18:13 Tansy Rodgers: So take a moment and just step back and look at where in the physical body maybe these things are showing up. And again, I’m not talking about if you had a acute injury, if you were in an accident, you had some kind of trauma, maybe you tripped, you fell. That’s not what I’m talking about. I’m talking about these occurrences that are consistently plaguing you over and over. And no matter what you do, you struggle to make them become resolved.
0:18:48 Tansy Rodgers: So there’s a few things that you can do to clear this as well. So let’s talk about just basic. Get moving, be gentle. You know, when I talked earlier about doing some stretching, some somatic work, yoga, moving your body, it’s the same concept, but this can really just be as simple as a shakeout. Take five minutes. Shake the area of the body that feels really tight and tense. Allow yourself to move. Maybe this could even be a dance break.
0:19:22 Tansy Rodgers: You know, moving your body. Put on your favorite song, dance to it. Dancing is one of my favorite ways to not only dislodge stagnant energy, but to also help to balance out and open up chakras, those energy portals that can get stuck and can get stagnant. I mean, that’s also moving the energy. So something as simple as dancing the shakeout, stretching, yoga. You know, we’ve already talked about those, but that’s a simple way that you can, that you can get that energy moving. And again, it doesn’t have to take long. It can just be a few moments.
0:20:05 Tansy Rodgers: If we’re talking about some crystals. I love using carnelian. Carnelian is great for circulation and vitality and can also help to stimulate movement and clear blocks in the lower chakras. I like bloodstone too. Bloodstone is a great one to get the blood moving, to get the circulation happening, but also great for supporting the root chakra, supporting the stability, the foundation, supporting that base energy.
0:20:37 Tansy Rodgers: So those two would be really great to help with this. I also. I also would recommend to selenite. So selenite is great for absorbing negative energy. So if your physical body is feeling tight and achy and you’ve had some of these signs, then maybe taking a piece of selenite and either putting it over the area that is uncomfortable, tight, achy, painful, or running a selenite wand or a piece of selenite around your body and trying to absorb some of that, you can also just wear it into your pocket or wear a bracelet that has some selenite on it so that it is always right there in your energy field.
0:21:22 Tansy Rodgers: One of the other things that’s super important with this when it comes to clearing out some of this energy, is to make sure that you’re hydrated, but not just being hydrated. Also having enough electrolytes. Electrolytes are so critical for your nervous system. They’re so critical for foundational health, for the physical body. And so having not just the hydration through clean, filtered water, but also adding in the minerals in the electrolytes.
0:21:58 Tansy Rodgers: And you can do this by doing some trace minerals. You can do some pink Himalayan sea salt or some Celtic sea salt. You can use real salt, not the iodized table salt. I’m talking about the salt that’s called real salt, and adding a little bit of that into your water. So if you don’t want to go and get any kind of fat, fancy electrolyte mixture, you don’t need to. You can take a little bit of the Himalayan, Celtic or real salt and just sprinkle that into your water to get some of those minerals, some of those electrolytes and the sodium that’s going to help you, your body, absorb that hydration.
0:22:40 Tansy Rodgers: This is important because of how it supports the fluid movement in your cells. And so the more that water that we are getting in, but also absorbing and the cells are holding onto that water is going to help to flush the energy through. One simple thing you can do to just move energy from a physical body perspective is to drink water. Because water moves energy. Water is so Healing. And if you want a little bonus, because water holds memory, because water is highly influenced by energy, you can speak in affirmations, positive affirmations.
0:23:28 Tansy Rodgers: You can do reiki on it. You can do some sound healing on it. You can influence it just by your thoughts and by sending it love, by holding it up to your heart and feeling love into that water. It sounds a little kooky, I know, but water holds energy and it holds memory. And as you do that and then you drink the water, you’re filling your cells with that energy. That’s just an extra added bonus. So really helpful to move the energy through the physical body, and it doesn’t have to be hard.
0:24:09 Tansy Rodgers: All right, so let’s talk about the next common place that energy blocks can occur, and that is in your environment, how your space is holding you back. Oh, man. I think this is a really important one to talk about because it gets misunderstood of how the. How much the environment interacts with you, your environment interacts with you, but how the energy from your environment can actually embed within you.
0:24:46 Tansy Rodgers: Us, as energetic beings, interact with other energetic objects all the time. People, places, things, thoughts. We interact consistently. Consistently and all the time, at every moment. And what’s important to remember here is that as you’re interacting with the environment, the people, places, things, thoughts around you, you are also connecting to them on an energetic level. Exchanging, extracting, giving energy to each thing.
0:25:25 Tansy Rodgers: And that means that if your environment is chaotic, is cluttered, is full of negative energy, if the people that you’re hanging out with are maybe more negative in nature, if they don’t feel so uplifting, you can actually pull that in, and that energy can get embedded within and cause energy blocks. So what are some signs that maybe your space is blocking you? You feel overwhelmed, you feel drained in certain rooms, certain locations, certain areas of your house.
0:26:10 Tansy Rodgers: Maybe when you’re sitting at your desk and you’re trying to focus and work, your creativity feels completely stuck. You’re not feeling very motivated or inspired. You feel like you’re stuck. Maybe you hold on to things that no longer feel aligned, but you struggle to let them go. You know that that shirt in your wardrobe no longer fits you or your personality, but there’s something about it that really, you struggle to let it go.
0:26:50 Tansy Rodgers: You hold on to it for whatever reason. And I’m not talking about an emotional connection because it reminds you of a happy time in your life or a person that brings you joy. I’m talking about an unknown reason. All of these are signs that your environment is Causing some sort of an energy block within you. If your space feels heavy, your energy is going to feel heavy too, and it’s not going to feel super light and airy.
0:27:23 Tansy Rodgers: That creates wellness, vitality, and inspiration. So what can you do to clear some of these areas, to clear some of these blocks first? One of the easiest ways is just declutter. Declutter one space today. Just one. Start small. If this feels overwhelming, if it feels like decluttering is one of the hardest things for you to do, then just start super small. Maybe it’s your desk, your car, your phone notifications.
0:27:59 Tansy Rodgers: One of the things that I found really helpful was that when I was trying to declutter and trying to reorganize to clear the energy to get things moving again, but yet felt overwhelmed because it felt like there were so many places to do that, I would go and pick every day, I would pick one small thing that I could do. So maybe that was that. That one drawer that just always seems to get everything pushed into it. I would pull that out, clean out that drawer.
0:28:36 Tansy Rodgers: If it was a dresser drawer, that maybe felt like it was overwhelming because it was just really messy, I would go in and clean that one drawer, right? So just pick something small, and you can do something small every single day or most days a week in order to get some traction going. If we’re thinking about some crystals, one of my favorites is black tourmaline. Selenite’s another great one here because of how it can absorb and pull away that negative energy from the situation, the area.
0:29:11 Tansy Rodgers: It helps to clear that stagnant energy. And black tourmaline is great because it is protection. It can help to ground you, but also it can help to absorb some of that negative energy too. If you have a lot of EMFs in your house, or maybe you are dealing with the electromagnetic fields that are feeling very invasive. If that is one of your energy sex, then maybe using some shungite. Shungite will be a great tool in order to help with EMF protection.
0:29:47 Tansy Rodgers: You know, we can declutter, we can use crystals. But another big way of clearing out energy blocks in your environment is also creating fresh energy. And a lot of times that’s a simple as shifting your perspective and shifting the visual of what’s going on around you. It’s why feng shui is so powerful. So you could even rearrange your furniture. You can open up windows. You can help to air the house out by creating an energy flow.
0:30:30 Tansy Rodgers: Maybe you can use some sage or some kind of smudging the house to help clear up that energy as well. It’s really about getting the energy flow moving again. I love changing perspective with things like rearranging furniture because of how, number one, visually, I start shifting my perspective and therefore the energy starts to change and move and it just feels different. But then also, number two, with the movement, if we think about feng shui, with the movement of energy, it creates pocket releases of energy to be released and to be let go.
0:31:17 Tansy Rodgers: So that’s another great tool, is just simply moving your furniture around. But again, if you really need to air the energy out, it needs somewhere to go. Right? It needs somewhere to go. So open up the windows and get a fresh start in that perspective too. All right, let’s talk about the final energy block that’s super common and where it gets stuck. And that is in your thoughts. Oh, of course. This had to be part of it, right?
0:31:51 Tansy Rodgers: Energy blocks in your thoughts. Why you keep overthinking everything. Oh, I feel like this is a great number four in our conversation because it really ties up everything else. Our thoughts can create this energy stagnant that can then be put out into how we see our environment, which can then be put out into what we create. That pulls into stuck energy in the physical body, which then affects how our nervous system dysregulation or regulation is.
0:32:37 Tansy Rodgers: Is the result of. Right. So I feel like it just all plays in tandem together. So let’s talk about some things that may show up some signs when you have a mental energy block. Maybe you keep replaying past mistakes or worrying about the future. You sit there in worry constantly feeling like if you did this or you did that, the situation would have been different. Maybe you would have reacted differently, Maybe the outcome would have been different.
0:33:16 Tansy Rodgers: Or you sit and ruminate and worry about what’s going to happen in the future. Remember, your thoughts are so powerful that when we sit and focus on the thoughts, we start to create our reality. We start to create some of these energy blocks that come in and embed in the physical tissue. Maybe you’re stuck in self doubt or perfectionism. This is really common. When energy blocks are seen sitting in the thoughts.
0:33:51 Tansy Rodgers: You may see yourself as starting to doubt things that are going on around you that maybe you didn’t doubt before. Maybe your perfectionism becomes even more ingrained embedded in your everyday activities. Maybe it’s harder and harder to finish that creative project or to get that work done and get it out there. Or maybe you start to feel so mentally exhausted, even when you haven’t done too much. You’ve had a slow day, there wasn’t much going on.
0:34:26 Tansy Rodgers: You really didn’t have to exert a lot of mental, physical or emotional energy. But yet for some reason, you’re feeling incredibly mentally exhausted. All of these are signs that you have some energy blocks that are embedded deep within the thoughts. And it’s important, especially at this level, it’s important to start recognizing some of that and to start clearing it out. Because like I said earlier, I feel like the energy blocks in your thoughts really affect every other area that we’ve talked about and can actually make or break how you move forward.
0:35:10 Tansy Rodgers: So how can you clear. One of my favorite ways is something that I’ve been practicing more and more, and I’ve actually learned it in a group that I am connected to is called the Accountability Collective. And even though this is not a super new concept, in the Accountability Collective that I am connected with, we really make this a prime focus of trying to get the thoughts out of our head so that the blocks do not hold us stagnant and do not cause us to freeze.
0:35:43 Tansy Rodgers: To not be able to move forward, to get ourselves into self sabotage. And that is practicing brain dumps. Write everything that is swirling in your head down onto paper. Get it out of your system. The more you collect up into your thoughts, the more that you ruminate on, the more that you worry about what you need to do or what has to get done. The more you’re worrying about future projects, future things that need to be accomplished, the more that you’re going to stay stuck in. Your thoughts and energy blocks can start to really embed.
0:36:25 Tansy Rodgers: So practicing brain dumps and getting everything out, you can do this weekly, you can do this every few weeks. It depends on how. It depends on you and it depends on where you’re at. Some people really benefit from doing this every single morning before they start their day. So that’s something that you would need to practice and play with and see what you need. If we’re talking about crystals, you can use some sodalite to start to reframe limiting beliefs. This is a great crystal to help shift your perspective and to help you to see a little differently in how you’re moving forward, how you’re responding, how you’re reacting, and also to allow some of the limit meditations that can cloud your clarity and your perspective.
0:37:17 Tansy Rodgers: You can also do some energy resets. Again, we talked back with the nervous system. We talked about meditation and Reiki and energy healing tactics. This is another great place to be able to do that. So Again, Reiki is another fantastic energy reset that you can connect into because it helps to clear mental fog and reset your focus. But if that’s not something that’s easily accessible to you, you don’t need to do any huge energy healing practice.
0:37:46 Tansy Rodgers: You can simply just close your eyes and spend 30 seconds to a minute listening to all the sounds around you, feeling all the sensations that come in to your body and to your nervous system. Just stopping for a moment and paying attention to the things that are going on around you and being in the moment essential. You’re pulling yourself out of your brain, out of the anxiety, out of the thought spiraling, and you’re bringing yourself into that moment where you’re creating the touch point, where you’re creating that down moment, that downtime.
0:38:26 Tansy Rodgers: And that’s important because energy blocks can get embedded in your thoughts. When you spend so much time in worry, anxiety, and the emotional rumination that can occur, it’s really important to just, again, shut that off and take a moment to reset. And it’s as easy as just closing your eyes and paying attention to moment mindfulness. Mindfulness. Oh, I’m just so. I’ve gotten so passionate about this whole topic because of how it impacts everything that you do for your health and your wellness.
0:39:09 Tansy Rodgers: You know, when I was going through my own journey of healing multiple times over the years, I really learned and understood from a deep, vulnerable way that it wasn’t just the foods that I was eating and it wasn’t just the way I was moving my body. Sometimes the foods that I was eating and the way I was moving my body was actually harming me. It wasn’t what I needed at that time. It was actually making some of these blockages worse.
0:39:38 Tansy Rodgers: And even though on the outside it appeared to be healthy, it wasn’t what I needed and what my body, my energy body needed. And when I started to understand that and learn about energy work and energy healing, I realized how that is the underlying factor to so many things, to the foods that we eat, to how you move your body, to who you connect with, to the relationships that you have, to how your physical body, your mental body, your emotional body, your spiritual body show up each and every day.
